About 300 weapons given away in Vitebsk Oblast during Operation Arsenal

VITEBSK, 5 May (BelTA) – About 300 weapons have been given away by Vitebsk Oblast residents during the Operation Arsenal, BelTA learnt from senior inspector of the permitting group of the law enforcement and crime prevention directorate of the Department of the Interior of the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee Sergei Galynya. The Operation Arsenal was announced on 12 April. As of 3 May, local dwellers have voluntarily given away 90 registered weapons, 207 unregistered weapons, 12,400 pieces of ammunition, 1,100 explosive devices and 6.5 kg of explosives. Most of the weapons were given away in the city of Vitebsk as well as in Orsha, Senno and Vitebsk districts. Policemen have taken away 87 registered weapons, 111 unregistered weapons 6,300 pieces of ammunition, 139 explosive devices and 9.3 kg of explosives. Criminal charges were brought against 34 people and administrative charges against 103 residents of the oblast for violating gun ownership laws.
