SHKLOV DISTRICT, 5 August (BelTA) – More attention will be paid to mechanical engineering in Belarus, said President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko at an informal meeting with reporters of regional mass media of Mogilev and Vitebsk oblasts in the agro-town Alexandria on 5 August. “Mechanical engineering is the heaviest industry in the world. The competition there is extreme. But we are lucky that there is a demand for our machines,” said the President. He stressed that these days Belarus exports various machines for cultivating crops. “The demand is moving therefore we are now putting efforts into these machines. The prospects are great. And the domestic market demands renovation,” stated Alexander Lukashenko. He added that the industry was developed not for the sake of the country’s image but because there was a direct link to the demand for merchandise. “For instance, Gomselmash exports half of the output. And it is good. To avoid foreign currency crises, one has to export half of the make and sell the other half domestically,” concluded the President. The head of state got familiar with Gomselmash’s latest grain harvester GS-16 Polesie in the field of OAO Aleksandriyskoye. Gomselmash’s Chief Designer Andrei Dyuzhev said that the machine’s cereals throughput capacity is 16kg/s. It boasts a 9-meter wide header thanks to a proprietary design. Alexander Lukashenko spoke highly of the test vehicle. He said it was necessary to start manufacturing it in lots the next year.
