Lukashenko: Belarus cares about each child

MINSK, 27 December (BelTA) – Belarus is doing its utmost to provide each child with love and care, President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said at a New Year charity event for children on 27 December, BelTA has learnt. “All of you are children of one friendly family; Motherland is like a loving mother who is trying to give love and care to each of you,” the head of state said. In his words, this is the goal of the charity campaign “Our Children”. Alexander Lukashenko noted that this year he asked all rich people to make New Year gifts for children. The President thanked all those who responded to this request. He said that he will soon meet with children who are left without parents and who have to celebrate New Year’s Day in hospital and will give presents to them. “The holiday will come to each child,” the head of state said. Addressing the children who came to Belarus’ main children’s New Year show, the President noted that most initiative, sport-loving, kind and responsible children are attending the event. “We have been waiting for this holiday for the entire year, and now it has come. We always wish each other happiness for New Year. Happiness for adults is when you are cheerful, when you are laughing, smiling, healthy and your eyes are shining,” Alexander Lukashenko said. The President mentioned the achievements of children in 2011. “The biggest things you have brought into this year are your achievements. Belarusian schoolchildren won 23 medals at international academic contests. It means you have not forgotten to study. These achievements would be impossible without study,” the head of state said. Alexander Lukashenko emphasized that the country is proud of the successful performance of Lidia Zablotskaya and her friends at the 2011 Junior Eurovision Song Contest. “She and her friends are winners for us,” the President said. He also mentioned the performance of Alexandra Nekhai who became a laureate of the International Junior Music Contest at the Slavonic Bazaar in Vitebsk. Alexander Lukashenko expressed hope that the coming year will be better than this one. In his words, that would be a great gift for adults and a good sign for the country. The President wished children to make most of winter holidays and enjoy their time. Alexander Lukashenko congratulated everyone on New Year. “I wish health, happiness and well-being to you, your family and friends, classmates, and teachers. Let your most cherished dreams come true!” Alexander Lukashenko underlined. Some 2,370 children aged 8-14 were invited for Belarus’ main children’s New Year show. Among them are orphans and adopted children, winners of nation-wide and local competitions, academic contests, festivals and sports events, members of children’s public associations, funds and organizations. Taking part in the children’s show are also 30 students of the Belarusian school in Riga. After a music performance in the House of the Republic, all children will be given presents on behalf of the President. The New Year charity campaign “Our Children” is held from 20 December to 10 January.
