No foreign currency at exchange booths so far

MINSK, 17 June (BelTA) – There will not be foreign currency at exchange booths for some time, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said in a press conference for central and regional Belarusian mass media on 17 June, BelTA has learnt. “If you want to know whether there will be foreign currency at exchange booths, I will tell you there will not. May be, there will, if somebody brings it there. But the government will not get involved into this game at least until 1 July. You know why? Because many want to buy cars. The panic buying remains. If they buy foreign currency, $2 billion will be thrown down the drain. I will not let it happen,” the President said. “We will go the way we are going. Then we will speed up. That is the truth. I cannot tell you more and do not have the right to. Not because I am hiding things, but because we need to adjust our way out of this bog,” Alexander Lukashenko said.
