Belarus penetrates 20 new markets in January-April

MINSK, 26 May (BelTA) – In January-April 2011 Belarus exported goods to 20 new countries, Andrei Savinykh, Press Secretary of the Foreign Ministry of Belarus, told reporters on 26 May, BelTA has learnt. The new export destinations included Aruba, Barbados, Benin, Bolivia, Qatar, Mauritius, Panama, Peru, Surinam, Somalia, Uganda, Uruguay, and Jamaica. According to Andrei Savinykh, Belarus keeps exploring new markets and diversifying exports to traditional markets. Over this period, Belarus boosted exports to Ethiopia (tractors, truck tractors), Morocco (tires, special purpose vehicles, trucks), Greece (oil products), Nigeria (fertilizers), Gabon (steel products), Malaysia (fertilizers and caprolactam), Bangladesh (fertilizers, synthetic fiber, X-ray equipment), Hong Kong (microchips, diodes, transistors, semiconductor devices, liquid crystal products, lasers), and Venezuela (buses, trolleybuses). Andrei Savinykh noted that over the four months 2011 Belarus managed to reinforce positive trends in foreign trade. Since February, the export has been steadily growing from month to month. In January the export made up $1.7 billion, in February $2.7 billion, in March $3.3 billion, in April Belarus’ total export exceeded $3.5 billion. This is Belarus’ best result surpassing the export peak in 2008 when Belarus exported $3.2 billion worth of goods. Thanks to the aggressive export policy the foreign trade deficit fell by $460 million in April.
